Time for an update. The Cambridges now have three and the (recently married) Sussexes are expecting. The Times printed a useful chart today. I learned that because Harry Sussex is not in the direct line of succession, according to "the royal rules, laid down by George V in Letters Patent in 1917 and updated by the Queen in 2012", his child is likely to be a mere Viscount or Lady.
Kings and Queens
Although British, I know very little about the country's 'rulers' as I regard the monarchy as a rather silly waste of money (a view reinforced by this research). I am working on the subjects in reverse chronological order and it is fair to say, having reached the middle 1600's, that the further back we go, the more convoluted the stories (in terms of ancestry, progeny and succession) become, but that does not make the current crew any more acceptable.

Waiting in the wings
There's something of a log-jam at the moment, with E2 close to breaking records for longevity and reign. Charles is famously eager to take the throne and would not be disappointed if his mum stood down in his favour, as has happened in other European royal families.
The birth of a new 4th-in-line (unnamed at the time of writing) sister to George makes this a good time to list the queue:
The birth of a new 4th-in-line (unnamed at the time of writing) sister to George makes this a good time to list the queue:
- First in line is Charles Philip Arthur George (the putative C3), son of E2
Married Diana Spencer in 1981 and had two sons, William (b. 1982) and Harry (b.1984). Divorced in 1996 and married Camilla Parker Bowles in ? (no issue). - Then comes William Arthur Philip Louis, son of Charles and Diana. He would become Bill5.
He married Kate Middleton in 2011 and they have two children, George (b. 2013) and his unnamed sister (b. 2015) - And third is George Alexander Louis, son of William and Kate. He would be the seventh George.
The Daily Telegraph kindly diagrammed the Line of Succession today and I'll try to get a scan. This link is to their web page and the image right is from that page showing a barely readable version of the diagram.

Note 1: The change of House name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor was made in 1917, during the First World War, in the reign of George V, because the former was considered too Germanic.
